The CFS has announced the 2025/2026 Fire Danger Season dates for the Fire Ban Districts in SA. Many sections of the Heysen Trail are closed during the Fire Danger Season. As the trail passes through several fire ban districts, the trail closures commence progressively from Saturray November 1st.
Section 15 of the Heysen Trail, specifically the segment between Union Bridge and Tippett Road in Cudlee Creek, is now closed. This closure is effective as of 5pm on Friday the 8th of August 2025 and will remain in place indefinitely. Hikers will need to use Gorge Road and Tippett Road through this section to rejoin the existing trail. Please take care walking on these roads.
Storms have damaged the trail at Kings Beach on the WSCW. FOHT volunteers are working on organising a re-route but in the meantime do take care as you cross that section of the trail.

Friends of Heysen Trail members & supporters are invited to Parachilna Gorge on Monday September 2nd to help celebrate completion of the Northern Trailhead Rejuvenation Project.
The Heysen Trail from Kaiserstuhl in the north to the Millbrook Dam in the south will be closed Monday 17th to Sunday 30th June, 2024. This is due to a feral animal control program being conducted in the area. Walkers are advised to avoid the area.
The Heysen Trail from Gerkie Gap to Dares Hill Summit Road will be closed from 6.00 pm Tuesday 28th May to 6.00 pm on Sunday 2nd June, 2024. This is due to a feral animal control program being conducted by Parks SA. Walkers are advised to avoid the area.
The Friends are involved in a project to develop a best-practice governance model to give the Heysen Trail a continuing and successful future. Landowners and other stakeholder are invited to participate in consultation that will take place in the near future.

The next series of the Friends 'End to End' walks along the Heysen Trail is scheduled to commence from Cape Jervis on Sunday May 26th 2024 Registrations for the first walk open at 7.00am sharp Monday 25th March.
