Shelter with water tank and bench, (multi-purpose walker’s platform).

This is a small site with space for 2 to 3 tents. It is not suitable for large groups.
The adjoining private properties to the north and south are remnant native bushland. Observe the private property signs and do not camp there.

    FoHT Trail Maintenance team visited the site on 21/7/202.
    Unfortunately the tank was empty.
    This wasn’t due to lack of rainfall in the area as on the same day the Webb Gap tank was 100% full.

    Tank was approximately 50% full. Water clean.

      Camped 6th May. Tank full but tap needs to be turned twice. Watched the sun set as the full moon rose. Resident possums, watch your food.

    Stayed at Smith Hill on 27/07/2020 – Lovely spot with a handy multi-purpose platform. Clear signage on fences noting private property abuts campsite, so it’s easy to respect landowners wishes. As per below – thanks to the work of the volunteers – the tap has been replaced on the water tank. However it remains empty at this time, it’ll take a few good rains before this changes. So for the foreseeable future take extra water with you.

    The tank tap was removed sometime around June 2020.
    It has since been replaced by FoHT Volunteers.

    It is understood that the action may have been taken due to the following concerns:
    – environmental damage caused by the collection of firewood,
    – fires being lit during the fire danger season (when the trail is closed)
    – pollution caused by food scraps, paper and toilet waste being left in the area
    – unauthorised access to surrounding private property.

    Please respect the environment and nearby landholders.

    I camped here on 4 June 2019 on Day 19 of my northbound end-to-end hike. Water tank was around 40%. Pretty spot and I loved having the multi-use platform! I found a level spot in some low trees up near the fence that was pretty sheltered. I actually woke to a dry tent where usually I have a lot of condensation under my outer fly. An advantage of the steady breeze through the night. Great sunsets and sunrises from this spot!

    2/10/15. This is in a lovely spot, but I think it could be very windy. Tank full. The first place since Parachilna, that I have nearly been carried away by mosquitoes.
