The Bluff Lookout (Wirrabara Forest Nursery) to White Park Road to Murraytown

Walking from The Bluff Lookout to Murraytown on the Heysen Trail.

This event has passed.

What to expect

Saturday – This provides a very diverse range of scenery. After re-joining the Trail, walkers again follow the ridgeline along fire access tracks through the dense natural scrub of the Telowie Gorge Conservation Park and enjoy views over Port Germein and across the gulf to Whyalla and Port Bonython. After turning off and descending steeply from the ridgeline the Trail follows Sheepyard Track ascending to Rocky Ridge then turning north through old harvested pine forest allowing expansive views to the Gulf, following a steep climb to Sugargum Lookout.

The trail continues following the Wirrabara Greenway through a private property to end at a new location – the junction of White Park & Yellow Cutting Roads.

Sunday – Following the reroute of trail in in April 2021 of the section immediately to the south (Walk 40 commencing in Wirrabara Forest), the start point of this section has been relocated to commence at White Park Rd.

This section starts at the junction of White Park & Yellow Cutting Rds. The day is spent walking along back roads and road reserves through undulating farmland.

Walk Difficulty – The Heysen Trail walks are demanding and suitable for experienced walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain consisting of long-distance trails with some steep inclines/declines, irregular surface with loose uneven, slippery base. They have a walking time of about 5 to 7 hours and will require a good degree of physical fitness.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Walk difficulty: End-to-End 14

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixty day walks involved, spread over six years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Kapunda, are held on one Sunday per month during the walk season. Due to the greater travelling distances involved, from Kapunda northwards, the walk is held over a weekend.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.

Refer to the End-to-End Walks page for more detailed information.
