Sturt Gorge Loop ( morning)

This event has passed.

What to expect

Welcome to the Summer Season.

After a short walk along the Sturt River Linear Trail, we move onto trails in the Gorge. We stay on the high side of the valley for the rest of the walk, until we cross back onto the Linear Trail and return to our cars.

Expect a walk around 11.5k with few challenges.

We finish opposite the Bake Bakery, so consider joining me for a coffee and perhaps a no calorie cake.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Walk difficulty: Summer Walks

These walks are only for when it is not walk season. The walks are generally 1.5 to 2 hours mostly on Wednesday evenings, meeting at 6pm, followed by a meal, close to Adelaide. With increasing popularity of walks some may be in the morning with variable meeting times and longer than the evening walks.

These walks are for those who

  • wish to maintain their fitness outside the walking season,
  • may not be regular walkers,
  • have not walked in a group previously, or
  • want a shorter walk.

Anyone undertaking these walks may have only a modest degree of physical fitness. However read the walk description as some walks may be longer and more strenuous than others.

Hazards

2 litres of water. Weather appropriate clothing and footwear in good condition. Hat and sunscreen as much of the walk is exposed. Poles if you use them. Insect repellent/fly net. Gaiters recommended

Please present well hydrated.

Requirements

Cyclists. Road crossings. Creatures that bite and vegetation that scratches.

Experience

Able to walk 15k on uneven and undulating surfaces.

Registration terms and conditions

Summer Walks are of shorter duration, in warmer weather and generally in more accessible areas, the recommendations on appropriate clothing should be modified to suit the walk and weather conditions. If unsure, please check with the walk leader.

There is no Hot Weather Policy for Summer Walks. However if weather is severe or the conditions do not suit the particular walk a Summer Walk may be cancelled. Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers to advise of the cancellation. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
