SATURDAY 25th SEPTEMBER

A deceptively tough walk with a bit of everything-undulating firetracks with spectacular views, rocky gorge sections, crisscrossing of the creek, one testing little climb out of the gorge and a 5 klms traverse of the gibber strewn floodplain to Eyre Depot plus a final 1.5 km gibber littered walk out to the Bus.

For this walk the Bus will drop us off at the start of the walk and also pick us up at the end for the one and half drive back into Quorn.

SUNDAY 26th SEPTEMBER

Starting at Dutchmans Stern with a detour off the Heysen Trail we will firstly do the 6 km Dutchman Stern loop- it will provide a memorable highlight of the walk – the view is breathtaking.

The remainder of the walk will gradually climb through farmlands, along firetracks and native woodland back towards Quorn

As this walk we will done in reverse we will park our cars at McConville Rd (near Quorn) the start of the section from where the bus will pick us up and take us to Dutchmans Stern from where we will walk back to our cars.

Walk difficulty: End-to-End 11

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixty day walks involved, spread over six years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Kapunda, are held on one Sunday per month during the walk season. Due to the greater travelling distances involved, from Kapunda northwards, the walk is held over a weekend.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.

Refer to the End-to-End Walks page for more detailed information.
