TS Linear Park / Black Hill CP( morn)

This event has passed.

What to expect

There’s a reason that I love Black Hill CP. Not only is it in my back yard, but also there are so few flat sections of trail within the park. You’re either climbing or descending, and I love that.

We start with a walk along Karrawirra Parri (River Torrens) before walking a loop in Black Hill CP.  Then a straightforward section back along the river to the cars.

Or more precisely, some flat walking along the upper reaches of the Linear Trail. Then a short rocky climb past the waterfall on Ambers Gully Trail. We then have a very long climb up Ambers Gully Track with gradients alternating between moderate and steep. There are a few flat spots on this climb, and we will stop at each of them. At the top we turn left onto Main Ridge track and after another short climb are met with an amazing view out over the Adelaide Plains. Here we might play a game of “can I spot my house”. The descent from here is quite steep in places although on the steepest section, we are aided by walking on concrete blocks providing plenty of grip. Then it’s back to the start alongside the river.

This might all sound like a lot of work, and maybe it is. But the walk is only 10.5k. So, the suffering is only short lived.

A coffee meetup post walk for those who wish to join me.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Walk difficulty: Trail Starter

The aim of these walks is to introduce people to bushwalking, for those who are not regular walkers and those who have not walked in a group previously or who want a shorter walk. TrailStarter walks are usually close to Adelaide, have a walk time of about 3 to 4 hours and will generally be not too physically demanding. Anyone undertaking these walks may have only a modest degree of physical fitness. These walks generally occur on Saturdays or Sundays.

Hazards

Heat, road crossings, cyclists, steep climbs and descents, snakes.

Requirements

Trail appropriate footwear and clothing. Min 2L water. Snacks. Hat and sunscreen. 1st aid kit. Flies get annoying as the morning heats up so consider repellent or net. Poles HIGHLY recommended.

Experience

Able to walk 15k over undulating and uneven surfaces. Ideal walk for E2E walkers looking to maintain fitness.

Registration terms and conditions

All walks are subject to you wearing appropriate clothing. Prime considerations are warmth and weather protection. Your safety and the safety of the walking group can be jeopardised by you wearing inappropriate clothing. In an emergency situation it can take hours to evacuate a sick or injured walker. Leaders may not accept people for a walk who have not come appropriately dressed or prepared.

If the forecast temperature for Adelaide is equal or higher than 32C, walks are cancelled. For simplicity, this can be determined the night prior to the walk from the 7.00 pm ABC News Adelaide weather forecast, based upon the Bureau of Meteorology’s routine 4pm forecast.

Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers advising the walk is cancelled. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk. Even if the forecast temperature is later revised, the walk remains cancelled. In such a case walk fees will be refunded.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
