What to expect

NOTE: If you wish to walk on only one day, please contact the FOHT office (once registration has opened) to register for that day’s walk. The on-line registration system will only allow you to register for both days.

NOTE: These walks are being walked out of order, so that the harder walk is on Saturday.

Saturday 30th May: Dashwood Gully to Mylor (23.5km)

This picturesque walk takes you through gently undulating farmland, the northern parts of Kuitpo Pine Forest and through a significant site in South Australia’s gold rush history, the Jupiter Creek Goldfields. Re-routes may be necesary because of logging operations.

Sunday 31st May: Kyeema to Dashwood Gully (20.5km)

The dense native bushland of Kyeema Conservation Park, the plantations of Kuitpo Forest and pretty back roads make this a pleasant walk, especially in winter. Re-routes may be necesary because of logging operations.

Walk Difficulty – The Heysen Trail walks are demanding and suitable for experienced walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain consisting of long-distance trails with some steep inclines/declines, irregular surface with loose uneven, slippery base. They have a walking time of about 5 to 7 hours and will require a good degree of physical fitness.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Walk difficulty: End-to-End 19

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixtyone day walks involved, spread over five years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Myponga, are held usually on one Sunday per month during the walk season for year 1. For years 2 to 4, walks are held Saturday & Sunday usually one weekend per month. The final year consists of 2 separate weeks of walking.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.
