E2E 17 Kapunda to Hamilton to Peters Hill

Walking from Kapunda to Peters Hill on the Heysen Trail.

This event has passed.

What to expect

Saturday 23rd August:  Kapunda to Hamilton  24km

A pleasant walk following backroads, tracks and fence lines through the undulating farmland of the Lower North.

From Kapunda, the trail heads northwest along backroads and tracks to Black Joes Road, then predominately northward along fence lines and tracks to the old telephone exchange at the crossroad. The walk is over undulating mainly open country of the lower North Mount Lofty Ranges.

Sunday 24th August:  Hamilton to Peters Hill  17km

This section of the Trail follows backroads and road reserves of open scrubland, before a short ascent of Peters Hill, where walkers are rewarded with pretty vistas over the farmlands of the lower Mid North and possibly an opportunity to visit Marschalls Hut.

Walk Difficulty – The Heysen Trail walks are demanding and suitable for experienced walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain consisting of long-distance trails with some steep inclines/declines, irregular surface with loose uneven, slippery base. They have a walking time of about 5 to 7 hours and will require a good degree of physical fitness.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Walk difficulty: End-to-End 17

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixtyone day walks involved, spread over six years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Kapunda, are held on one Sunday per month during the walk season. Due to the greater travelling distances involved, from Kapunda northwards, the walk is held over a weekend.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.
