Cleland Loop ( morning)

This event has passed.

What to expect

From Measdays Lookout, we drop down into the valley and its straight into the climb up Carro. We keep pushing up and across to Lodge Track which takes us on to Wine Shanty. After walking most of Wine Shanty, we will then turn right for the short, sharp climb up Pimpala before looping around for the grind up Gores Road. From there it is a straightforward walk to Lofty Summit and an early lunch. Refreshed, it’s all downhill back to the cars.

This is a 16.5k walk with 3 climbs, on what could be a rather warm day. Not to be taken lightly. The walk will not be cancelled due to heat, but there are numerous options available to shorten the walk, which we can discuss on the day if necessary

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each wa.5klk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Walk difficulty: Trail Starter

The aim of these walks is to introduce people to bushwalking, for those who are not regular walkers and those who have not walked in a group previously or who want a shorter walk. TrailStarter walks are usually close to Adelaide, have a walk time of about 3 to 4 hours and will generally be not too physically demanding. Anyone undertaking these walks may have only a modest degree of physical fitness. These walks generally occur on Saturdays or Sundays.

Hazards

Road crossings, cyclists, creatures that bite and vegetation that scratches. Dehydration and heatstroke.

Please ensure that you present yourself at the start of the walk fully hydrated.

Requirements

Min 2L of water. Weather appropriate clothing and sound hiking footwear. Hat, sunscreen and insect repellant. Personal first aid kit. Poles if you use them. Lunch.

Scroggin as lunch comes late in the walk. Being able to consume some calories each regroup, or drink break will get you through. To be carried where you can access it without removing your pack.

You might also consider supplementing your water with a water bottle of Gatorade, Powerade or the like. If you use a bladder for your water, please carry this second drink separately.

Experience

Able to walk 20k on uneven and undulating surfaces in mild to warm conditions.

Registration terms and conditions

All walks are subject to you wearing appropriate clothing. Prime considerations are warmth and weather protection. Your safety and the safety of the walking group can be jeopardised by you wearing inappropriate clothing. In an emergency situation it can take hours to evacuate a sick or injured walker. Leaders may not accept people for a walk who have not come appropriately dressed or prepared.

If the forecast temperature for Adelaide is equal or higher than 32C, walks are cancelled. For simplicity, this can be determined the night prior to the walk from the 7.00 pm ABC News Adelaide weather forecast, based upon the Bureau of Meteorology’s routine 4pm forecast.

Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers advising the walk is cancelled. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk. Even if the forecast temperature is later revised, the walk remains cancelled. In such a case walk fees will be refunded.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
