What to expect

So, we are now at the end of the Winter walking season. Your trail hardened and as fit as you have been all year. Let’s finish this season with a bang.

We will meet at Measday’s Lookout, and then make our way down to the valley floor. And then it is straight into the ascending till we are just short of the summit.

And then we will go back down.

And when we are neither up nor down,

We will turn around,

And head for the summit again.

But not all the way.

Expect 22k and enough vertical metres climbed to ensure that you sleep well that night. Pace will be moderate except on the steeper climbs (of which there are several) when you will walk at your own pace. We will wait for you.

You will finish the walk tired but exhilarated. So much so that you will want to rush home to book onto my next Cleland adventure on the following weekend.

Contact me on 0412228631 for further information, or if you are running late on the day.

Cheers.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness. These walks generally occur on Saturdays or Sundays.

Hazards

Some slopes could be slippery if wet. Road crossing. Cyclists. Creatures that bite and vegetation that scratches. If the day is warm, ensure that you are well hydrated.

Requirements

Hat and sunscreen. Weather appropriate clothing and hiking footwear in good condition. 2 to 3 litres of water as there is nowhere to resupply on this walk. Poles recommended. Morning tea and lunch. If you are not already in the habit, scroggin stored where you can easily access it without taking off your pack.

Experience

This is a longer walk in what could be warmer weather. Able to walk at least 25k on undulating and uneven surfaces.

Registration terms and conditions

All walks are subject to you wearing appropriate clothing. Prime considerations are warmth and weather protection. Your safety and the safety of the walking group can be jeopardised by you wearing inappropriate clothing. In an emergency situation it can take hours to evacuate a sick or injured walker. Leaders may not accept people for a walk who have not come appropriately dressed or prepared.

If the forecast temperature for Adelaide is equal or higher than 32C, walks are cancelled. For simplicity, this can be determined the night prior to the walk from the 7.00 pm ABC News Adelaide weather forecast, based upon the Bureau of Meteorology’s routine 4pm forecast.

Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers advising the walk is cancelled. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk. Even if the forecast temperature is later revised, the walk remains cancelled. In such a case walk fees will be refunded.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
