CANCELLED: Burnside Trails

This event has been cancelled (Forecast high temperature for the day and still in mid 30's at time of walk.).

What to expect

A loop walk starting fron Brock Reserve with a pleasant climb up towards Mt Osmond golf course offering some splendid views back across  Adelaide to the gulf. From near the golf course we cross  Mt  Osmond Road into Themeda Reserve descending before again crossing Mt Osmond  Road prior to a zig zag climb back into Mt Osmond Reserve for the final gentle descent back to our cars.

Apart from the short zig zag climb towards the end of the walk the initial climb up to near the golf course is relatively easy. There may be a opportunity for the more adventurous walkers to follow a steeper section and then rejoin the group.

Walk difficulty: Summer Walks

These walks are only for when it is not walk season. The walks are generally 1.5 to 2 hours mostly on Wednesday evenings, meeting at 6pm, followed by a meal, close to Adelaide. With increasing popularity of walks some may be in the morning with variable meeting times and longer than the evening walks.

These walks are for those who

  • wish to maintain their fitness outside the walking season,
  • may not be regular walkers,
  • have not walked in a group previously, or
  • want a shorter walk.

Anyone undertaking these walks may have only a modest degree of physical fitness. However read the walk description as some walks may be longer and more strenuous than others.

Hazards

A couple of tricky road crossings and a narrow pathed descent.

Requirements

Good quality footwear and sufficient water for the weather conditions. Walking poles would useful for the tricky descents.

Experience

Trailstarter. The first half of the walk is uphill, albeit relatively comfortable.

Registration terms and conditions

Summer Walks are of shorter duration, in warmer weather and generally in more accessible areas, the recommendations on appropriate clothing should be modified to suit the walk and weather conditions. If unsure, please check with the walk leader.

There is no Hot Weather Policy for Summer Walks. However if weather is severe or the conditions do not suit the particular walk a Summer Walk may be cancelled. Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers to advise of the cancellation. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
