Hiking from Mt Little Station to Moralana Scenic Drive
Section 56 of the Heysen Trail takes you from Mount Little Station along picturesque creeks to Moralana Scenic Drive.
What you’ll experience hiking Section 56 of the Trail
This very long section of the Trail follows picturesque Mernmerna and Slaty creeks to the Red Range campsite. If you are accessing the Trail from Mount Little Station you’ll pass rock pools along Mayo Gorge which were used in scenes for the 2007 movie Lucky Miles. You’ll have a pretty walk with gentle undulations, along creek beds and through native pine woodlands, in the shadow of Elder Range and Mount Aleck. This long 32.4 km walk can’t be shortened due to public access restrictions on Private Property.
Red Range walk-in campsite can only be accessed from the Trail. The nearest vehicle access points are 15.4 km south of the campsite at Mount Little Station/Mayo Gorge and 15 km north of the campsite where the Heysen Trail crosses Moralana Scenic Drive.

Walker / Vehicle access
Location of Mt Little Station
Contact Peter and Kellie Zedow on (08) 8648 4206, for permission to access Mount Little Station.
Vehicle access from Hawker is 18km along the Leigh Creek Road (aka The Outback Highway B83), then along Mount Little Station track past the homestead and onto the Mount Little campground.
Walkers exit the Trail at Mernmerna Creek, GR 544 850 on mapsheet 7D and on sheet 8A (Lat/Long -31.744132 138.407402 ) and continue about 2 km northward through Mayo Gorge to the campground.
