Sun 14th June: Travel up day

Mon 15th June: Walk #53 – Calabrinda Creek to Jarvis Hill 26.5km – This is a long but fairly fast walk, initially along vehicle tracks, then over open grazing land along the face of Yappala Range and past the historic Mt Elm school site to Jarvis Hill carpark.

Tue 16th June:  Walk #54 – Jarvis Hill to Leigh Creek Rd (Old Wonoka) 10km – One of the gems of the Trail, this ridge walk provides spectacular views and many photo opportunities. It is a short walk, but may still take up to 4 -5 hours because of the terrain and photo stops.

Wed 17th June: Rest Day – Subject to change due to weather.

Thu 18th June: Walk #55 – Leigh Creek Rd (Old Wonoka) to Mt Little Station  17km – This is a classic Flinders Ranges walk which we spend in Wonoka Creek, the site of several major floods.

Fri 19th June:  Walk #56 – Mt Little Station to Moralana Scenic Drive 32.4km – This section of the Trail follows picturesque Mernmerna Creek and Slaty Creek to the Red Range campsite. Continuing on north from the campsite is an easy and pretty walk with gentle undulations, along creek-lines and through native pine woodlands, in the shadow of Elder Range and Mt Aleck. However, the overall walk is long and cannot be shortened as there are strictly no public access entries or exits as the section is encompassed by Private Property.

Walk difficulty: End-to-End 15

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixtyone day walks involved, spread over six years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Kapunda, are held on one Sunday per month during the walk season. Due to the greater travelling distances involved, from Kapunda northwards, the walk is held over a weekend.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.

Refer to the End-to-End Walks page for more detailed information.

Registration terms and conditions

All walks are subject to you wearing appropriate clothing. Prime considerations are warmth and weather protection. Your safety and the safety of the walking group can be jeopardised by you wearing inappropriate clothing. In an emergency situation it can take hours to evacuate a sick or injured walker.
