This is a multi day walk. If you only wish to walk on one day, please contact the office once registrations open.

Saturday Walk 43: Melrose to Alligator Gorge Rd – 26kms

This is a very long and difficult (but memorable) section of the Trail that starts with the ascent of Mt Remarkable, and continues through Mt Remarkable National Park before emerging on Alligator Gorge Road.

Sunday  Walk 44:  Alligator Gorge Rd to Horrocks Pass – 15km

The trail initially leads over Lavender Peak to picturesque Stony Creek campsite. From there, tracks, back roads and a walk next to a busy highway take walkers to the memorial to explorer John Horrocks

Walk Difficulty – The Heysen Trail walks are demanding and suitable for experienced walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain consisting of long-distance trails with some steep inclines/declines, irregular surface with loose uneven, slippery base. They have a walking time of about 5 to 7 hours and will require a good degree of physical fitness.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Social

Hi all,

Here we are already planning the third weekend away. This year is certainly flying.

Apparently, this Saturdays Walk is a challenging one so we thought a nice easy night was in order.

We are booked into Jacka Brothers Brewery, 9 – 11 Lambert Street Melrose between 6 and 6.30 pm.

Wood oven pizzas and a few brews will be on offer before heading off for an early night.

At this stage all we need to know who’s interested so we can put together a range of pizzas to be pre ordered before the night.

So please select RSVP as you register for this walk if you will be attending the night.

Jeans and a flannelette shirt is the dress code for the night.

Our social nights are a great way to unwind, share stories and fuel up for the next day.

We hope you can join us.

Cheers Jo on behalf of the Social committee.

Wed  love you to get cosy in a pair of jeans and a flannelette shirt

Dates

Walk difficulty: End-to-End 15

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixtyone day walks involved, spread over six years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Kapunda, are held on one Sunday per month during the walk season. Due to the greater travelling distances involved, from Kapunda northwards, the walk is held over a weekend.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.

Refer to the End-to-End Walks page for more detailed information.
