SUMMARY:Horsnell Gully with a taste of Heysen
DESCRIPTION:This walk commences at the car park on Coach Road\, Horsnell Gully. There are spectacular views over Adelaide from the carpark. Coach Road was the principal road into Adelaide from the east during the 1870s and 1880s. There was a coach gate located on the highest point of ‘Coach Hill’\, which is known today as the suburb of Skye. The driver blew a trumpet to tell the settlers that he had been through the gate and they had to climb up to close it. Near the spot where the power lines cross Coach Road\, there was a hut for a ‘team’s keeper’ who kept fresh horses for the coaches. \nFrom the car park we walk along Coach Road for a short distance before dipping down into Gandy’s Gully. From there it climbs to meet up with the Heysen Trail. We follow the Heysen Trail down to the Giles ruins and the reed beds. At Giles we visit three cottages\, ‘Faith’\, ‘Hope’ and ‘Charity’ and the reed beds for morning tea. These cottages were built by Charles Giles and John Horsnell in the 1840s so are in need of some maintenance. At the junction of the two creeks they established The Reedbeds\, an area cultivated by three gardeners and their families who lived in the cottages. A slate-lined channel helped direct waters from the creek into The Reedbeds. Hornsell established a nursery and home called ‘Grove Hill’ nearby at Norton Summit. \nAfter the ruins we have a bit of climbing to do along the Heysen Trail. This is a lovely section of the Heysen Trail and is renowned for its wildflowers. \nFrom here we head to Horsnell Gully Conservation Park with more interesting ruins with helpful information panels that may be perused by those interested in history during a lunch break. John Horsnell\, once coachman to Governor Gawler\, settled the gully in 1842\, establishing market gardens and orchards of walnut\, Osage orange and olive trees – remnants of which can still be seen today. He established an English cottage garden that included roses\, violets and agapanthus\, and the first dairy in South Australia. In 1860-61\, a house of local sandstone was built and\, at one time\, housed 14 children. The house remains and a coach house\, stable and milking shed can also be found nearby. These ruins are well maintained and represent one of the earliest farms in the area. \nAfter lunch the fun part of the walk includes a clamber up a waterfall (be prepared some crawling on hands and knees). \nContact me on the day on 0400320943 if necessary.

SUMMARY:Lobethal Bushland Pk
DESCRIPTION:Pleasant circular walk in Lobethal Bushland Park just outside of Lobethal. The trails in the park were through heritage-listed bush but the park was burnt out in the December 2019 Adelaide Hills bush fire. Through the care of passionate volunteers\, the park has been remarked and is showing signs of incredible regrowth. There are also exciting signs that kangaroos\, echidnas and bird life are returning. We will walk through trails which have been burnt\, but there are wonderful signs of regrowth on some of the trees and also the undergrowth. Slopes are mostly gradual. A good walk for new walkers and families\, with toilets and a picnic/bbq area at walk completion.

SUMMARY:From The Fleurieu To Mt Lofty
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity for walkers to experience another 6 picturesque sections of the Heysen Trail in a “single hit “”from where last year’s South Coast Walk finished at the delightful hamlet of Inman Valley to continue the journey north through more of the wonderful countryside of the Fleurieu Peninsula into the southern reaches of the Adelaide Hills culminating with the final walk climbing up to Mt Lofty summit and down to the nearby Cleland  Wildlife Park.\n\nAnother full week of walking on the Trail designed to enable walkers especially those from beyond Adelaide\, whether from intrastate or interstate\, the opportunity to complete these beautiful sections in a single block rather than the normal schedule of an end to end group.\n\nThose walkers who undertook last year’s South Coast Walk will be offered an early link to register for the weeks walking on Thursday 10th June\, three weeks prior to the opening of Registrations on Thursday 1st July.\n\nPlease note this is an extended walk for people wanting to do the entire week of walking and not those wishing to to do selected day walks.\n\nAll the walk leaders are currently leading end to end groups and have each personally completed the trail on one or more occasions.\n\nFor each walk\, walkers will need to drive themselves to the end location for the walk\, from where a bus will take them to the start of the walk. Please note that with the exception of the FIRST WALK the meeting locations for the other WALKS are all within an HOURS DRIVE of ADELAIDE\, so those coming from Interstate OR Intrastate locations may confidently choose to stay in accommodation in Adelaide for the week of walking.\n\nSome of these walks are challenging so please ensure you come physically prepared for a great week of walking on the Heysen Trail.\n\nShould you have any questions regarding the walk please feel free to contact John Babister at; jpbabister@internode.on.net or 0409616270.\n\nAny walker with Respiratory Symptoms or Fever should exclude themselves from any activity until they have received a negative COVID result\, irrespective of vaccine status. If there is no testing available( eg. Country Areas ). Then they should consult the nearest Medical Professional available( directly or by phone ). If no consult is available they should exclude themselves from activity until 3 days after symptoms have settled.\n\nPlease ensure that you use Hand Sanitizer prior to Boarding and wear a Face Mask that you provide yourself throughout the BUS TRIP.\n\nThere will be a group DINNER held on evening of Thursday 2nd September. SUMMARY:Cobbler Hill to Tapanappa
DESCRIPTION:This walk is usually the 2nd walk done by E2E groups on their Heysen Trail journey but as with all sections of the Heysen trail they are great walks to do anytime. Although relatively short\, this section of the Heysen trail offers spectacular scenery\, including a magnificent waterfall\, as walkers follow narrow tracks through the dense native scrub of Deep Creek Conservation Park\n\nBeing the second walk of the E2Es\, one of the reasons it is being run again is not only because it is a lovely walk for everyone to do\, but also to assist people that have joined an E2E further up the trail to allow them to get this walk in as a catch-up.  If you are needing this walk as a catch-up walk can you please email Mark Fletcher by clicking the name in red below and let me know which E2E you are on before the walk opens for bookings.

SUMMARY:Broadview - Woolshed Flat - Quorn
DESCRIPTION:This weekend will be based in Quorn\n\nNOTE –If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. The on–line registrationsystem will only allow you to register for both days\n\nAny walker with Respiratory symptoms or fever should exclude themselves from any activity until they have received a negative COVID result\, irrespective of Vaccine Status. If there is no testing avsilable(eg Country areas) then they should consult the nearest Medical Professional available(directly or by phone). If no consult is available they should exclude themselves form activity until 3 days after symptoms have settled.\n\nPlease ENSURE that you use HAND SANITIZER prior to Boarding and wear a FACE MASK throughout each Bus Trip over the weekend.\n\nBIOSECURITY MEASURES–Please Ensure you Thoroughly Clean your footwear\, clothing\, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk over the weekend to remove all seeds\, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a RED garbage bin.\n\nSATURDAY 28th AUGUST\n\nAfter the 3 klms walk-in to rejoin the Trail\, it heads north climbing through grazing land and native scrublands up to Mt Brown. The summit provides spectacular views of the northern Spencer Gulf\, especially from the viewing tower. A picturesque largely single file descent leads down to a classic Flinders Ranges creek walk along Waukarie Creek. The final ascent to Mt Brown includes some scrambling over rocks.\n\nOverall a fairly tough but rewarding walk.\n\nSUNDAY 29th AUGUST\n\nA steady climb to start the day takes walkers to the top of the range and views over Pichi Richi Pass. After a tricky section following the ridgeline for a few kilometres the trail descends into the Pass again. Much of the remainder of the walk is spent alongside or near the historic Pichi Richi railway line\, passing remnants of deserted sidings and settlements. After crossing over the Pt Augusta Road the final section is a gentle walk through grazing land and may provide glimpses of a small herd of Camels.\n\nDinner on Saturday night will be in Quorn at Emily’s Bistro at 6.15pm.\n\nThe theme for the weekend is Cinema and Movie Stars – in recognition of the many films that have been shot around Quorn.

SUMMARY:Belair National Park
DESCRIPTION:A loop walk incorporating several of the shared use trails in the park.  We will pass through Echo Tunnel\, so a torch or headlamp will be an advantage.  We will also view Upper and Lower Waterfalls\, which have been spectacular during our wet winter. Old Government House and the State Flora Nursery are also on the intended route.  The route may be changed or shortened in the event of inclement weather.  Hazards include muddy tracks\, slippery rocks when wet\, and kamikaze cyclists (your leader almost had a collision with one while checking out the route). Walking poles will be an advantage\, and good quality walking boots are necessary.  Koalas\, kangaroos and even emus have been sighted on the route by the leader.  Birdlife is prolific.  The walk leader can be contacted on 0421 177 822 should it be necessary in the event of late arrival or illness on the day.  The walk will finish within 4 hours should all things go well on the day.
