DESCRIPTION:Please take note the ORDER of this weekends walks has been reversed so that the arduous walk over Mt Remarkable to Alligator Gorge Road is undertaken on Saturday.\n\nThis weekend is based in Melrose.\n\nAny walker with Respiratory symptoms or fever should exclude themselves from any activity until they have a negative COVID  result\, irrespective of Vaccine Status. If no consult is available they should exclude themselves from activity until 3 days after symptoms have settled.\n\nPlease ENSURE that you use HAND SANITIZER prior to Boarding and wear a FACE MASK throughout each Bus Trip over the weekend.\n\nNOTE –If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. The second group of walkers will start half an hour later\, regrouping with the first group at the cairn near the summit. After a quick morning tea the group will continue as usual.\n\nDon’t forget to bring a headlamp or torch for the early morning start\n\nSUNDAY 27th JUNE\n\nA leisurely walk\, predominantly along gently undulating backroads through pleasant farmland surrounds before finishing in the shadows of Mt Remarkable at Melrose passing an ancient red river gum with perhaps the largest bole on the Trail and the tall stone tower of once prominent Jacka Brewery.\n\nDinner on the Saturday evening will be at  the Mt Remarkable Hotel  from 6.00pm. I have reserved  places for up to 45 diners. The management have asked for us to be on time or earlier as our group will be first sitting for the evening. When registering for the walk please fill in the RSVP question to indicate if you will be attending.

SUMMARY:Constitution Review: Members Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Constitution Review – FoHT Member Information Session\n\nFOHT Council has decided to review our 35 year old Constitution to modernise and refresh for our current needs. Council is undertaking consultation with committees and members to help build a framework for the next 35 years.\n\nInterested members are invited to an information session that will outline key proposals\, answer questions and obtain feedback from members.  A draft document will be provided to attendees.\n\nWhy?  The Constitution outlines the rules for how the Friends manages the finances\, policies and priorities for our activities: walks program\, trail development\, office and promotion.  Council members think it is a good opportunity to revitalise how we manage the Friends and encourage newer members to become more involved.\n\nCouncil will consider any feedback and issues raised before seeking legal advice on the provisions and any formal process.  The current Constitution requires that proposed changes be presented at a special Meeting of Members or Annual General Meeting.

SUMMARY:Walk the Yorke - Moonta Bay to Tiparra Springs to Balgowan
DESCRIPTION:This is the start of a series of walks – to walk the whole of the ‘Walk the Yorke’ over two years of weekends away.\nIn 2021 we will walk from Moonta to Marion Bay and in 2022 we will walk from Port Wakefield to Marion Bay.\n\nThe bus fee collected during registration will be used to fund a bus to take walkers from the meeting point at the end of the day’s walk back to the starting point.\nIf there are insufficient registrations to make that cost-effective the funds will be refunded and a car-shuffle organized to enable the walk to proceed regardless.\nConversely\, if there is sufficient interest\, it may be possible to reduce the bus fee.\n\nSaturday – We will start with one of the Hero Walks…\nThis section will feature long sections of beach walking.\nAt Cape Elizabeth vast sand dunes are a haven for birdlife. Cormorants\, Grey Herons\, Hooded Plovers and the rare Sooty and Pied Oystercatchers can all be seen wading along the shore.\nThe dunes also provide a habitat for many species of coastal plants and animals.\nPublic toilets are located at Moonta Bay and at Pt Hughes (the 24km mark and at the end of today’s walk).\n\nSunday has it all …\nVibrant red cliffs\, tranquil sheoak woodlands and crisp white sandy beaches with calm blue waters.\nThis peaceful and isolated environment is a haven for both woodland and coastal birdlife.\nPublic toilets are at the 7km mark and at the end of today’s walk.\n\nSuggested accommodation – Moonta Bay\n\nFor those interested in walking the complete WTY but unable to attend this weekend\, please email Peter Clark re the possibility of joining leaders when they reconnoiter this weekend’s walk.\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. The on-line registration system will only allow you to register for both days.

SUMMARY:Onkaparinga River Recreation Park
DESCRIPTION:A “figure 8” loop walk covering most of the Pingle farm\, Noarlunga Downs Wetland and Wetlands Loop Trails.  A very flat walk\, only a couple of short rises to negotiate (you can’t really call them hills lol!).  The distance covered will be approximately 13.5 km\, which may be shortened in the event of inclement weather.\n\nWe will see plenty of birdlife\, and maybe some kangaroos.  We will cross over the old railway bridge over the Onkaparinga River adjacent to Main South Road\, and walk adjacent to a grass airstrip\, home of the South coast Flying Club and Model Aircraft Club.  If we are lucky\, we may see some light planes and model aircraft flying.
