SUMMARY:Sturt Gorge
DESCRIPTION:Sturt Gorge offers a remarkable nature experience in contrast with it’s close proximity to the suburbs. Despite being so close to urban areas\, the gorge offers a serene and rugged environment to explore.\n\nOur route involves some challenging sections\, and offering views  of the Sturt dam\, so a good level of fitness is essential.  Walking poles are recommended.  The route will depend on the Sturt river water levels and weather. We will be traversing uneven ground\, and rock hopping on occasion.  Some sections may be slippery\, so a good sense of balance is required. We will cross the river at various points\, making waterproof hiking boots highly recommended.\n\nBIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear\, clothing\, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds\, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

SUMMARY:Walk The Yorke Balgowan to Port Rickaby
DESCRIPTION:The weekend will include two sections of Walk The Yorke.\n\nSection one 6 June 26 will be Balgowan to Port Victoria 21.5 km\n\nSection two 7 June 26 will be Port Victoria to Port Rickaby 21.5 km\n\nCarpooling from Port Victoria\, details provided closer to the walk.\n\nSection one takes us away from the coastline and weather dependant\, can be quite challenging at the start. However\, after a few two-wheel drive tracks which we cross through road reserves and the rich coastal vegetation of the Narungga Aboriginal Lands. Closer to Port Victoria\, we may encounter wombat burrows\, home to the southern hairy-nosed wombat\, South Australia’s faunal emblem. As we approach Port Victoria\, we approach the coastal trails again along the cliff tops.\n\nPort Victoria was once South Australia’s fourth largest port\, with a historic jetty\, which dates back to 1878.\n\n \n\nSection two is a day of walking from one jetty to another. This is one of the specialties of the Yorke Peninsular. Leaving Port Victoria we hug the cliff top before commencing 17 kms of beach walking. White dunes covered in green vegetation and striking orange granite formations of Renowden Rocks will be our back-drop. Pelicans and endangered hooded plovers are a feature of this beautiful section.\n\n \n\nAccommodation: There are cabins at the Port Victoria caravan park\, Port Rickaby caravan park and powered sites only at Balgowan.\n\nBIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear\, clothing\, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds\, dirt and other debris.
